Whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush or are an avid hobbyist intent on expanding your skills, daytime oil painting is for you! Beginners will learn the fundamentals of color mixing, composition, and paint application. By working from still-life arrangements, students will also learn how to create the illusion of light and depth as well as texture while developing their own personal styles. Those with more experience are welcome to concentrate on advanced techniques and work at their own levels. Assistance is available for individual projects. Please bring the following to the first week of class: Small metal palette knife A variety of brushes- 3 are fine, but you should have a large (1"-1.5") flat. Turpenoid (blue and white can, small size) Glass jar Palette paper Rubber gloves optional Something to paint on- canvas paper, canvas board, stretched canvas - your choice. Oil paint- small tubes. Some good brands include Gamblin, Amsterdam, Windsor Newton, and can be purchased at Blick in the Landmark Center, near the Fenway, or Pearl on Mass Ave in Central Square. Join us for this Thursday-night class that will all you to flex your creative muscles and enjoy a glass or two of wine in a relaxing, friendly atmosphere. At the beginning of class you'll receive an ink pen, small pieces of seaglass, pebbles, and sand. The instructor will lead you through creating your own beach scene on paper, with the seaglass acting as birds, fish, or whatever your creative heart desires! This class is for the complete beginner. You will start by learning how to tame the sewing machine -- winding and loading a bobbin; threading and changing a needle; and stitching straight. You will also explore a world of textiles and learn how to tell apart different kinds of fabrics. While making a cozy pair of pajama pants, you will learn how to work with a pattern. Sewing machines are provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have one. Expect to spend a little money on sewing tools and materials for the PJs. During the first class, we will talk about what to buy (and what not to buy). So don't miss the kick-off session, and please be prompt because we have lots of work to do.

You know how to use a sewing machine, now let's learn some sewing techniques.
