The Boston Center for Adult Education Offers the Perfect Gifts for Moms and Dads

BOSTON, MA – April 14, 2008 – Forget the flowers and toss out the ties. This Mother’s and Father’s Day, give your parents something they really want: time with you. In honor of mom and dad, the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) is offering a special selection of one-day, weekly, and weekend workshops. Spend an afternoon or evening learning to cook like a celebrity chef, kicking up your heels, brushing up your biking skills, or simply celebrating the fine art of sipping scotch.

So skip the mall and celebrate Mother’s and Father’s Days by sharing a new experience with your parents. Among the courses offered during the May/June term are:

Introduction to Ceramics:
Perfect for first timers, this four-session course teaches burgeoning artists to build, finish, glaze and fire a variety of ceramic pieces. Use your hands, and your imagination, to craft platters, vases, pitchers, and more. Four consecutive Wednesdays beginning May 7, from 7:45 p.m. – 9:45 p.m.

Creative Jewelry with Nature:
What woman doesn’t like a little bling? Find out how to turn natural found objects into beautiful jewelry. Make dazzling earrings, pendants and bracelets out of the polished stones, shells, or bits of sea glass you’ve collected or use supplies and tools provided by instructors. Saturday, May 10, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Cupcakes Go Glam:
Cupcakes are the new sushi. Learn everything there is to know about creating darling designer desserts, from whipping up luxurious frostings to adding the right touch of sparkle. You’ll leave with recipes and the courage to bake these sweet treats at home with or for mom. Saturday, May 10, 10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Pages & Pedals - Author’s Bike Tour of Concord:
Leave city life behind and head to idyllic Concord for some culture and relaxation. See the historic homes, birthplaces and final resting places of some of America's most famous and influential authors. Enjoy the sights and sounds that inspired Thoreau, Emerson and Alcott on this scenic, leisurely ride. No bike? No problem! Concord Bike Tours will provide you with a bike, helmet and snack. Saturday, June 7, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Scotch Tasting:
Arguably the most distinctive of the fine spirits, scotch is still growing in popularity. Taste the difference between blended, pure, vatted malt, single malt, and cask-strength scotches. Discover the distinctive recipes that originated in the whisky regions of Scotland. Friday, June 13, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Choreographing Your Father/Daughter Dance:
Prepare for your wedding or other special event by choreographing a dance that will look great on video, dazzle your guests, and save your toes. Have fun as you master the fox trot, the most popular wedding dance. Fathers and daughters, mother and sons, and other would-be Freds and Gingers are welcome. Friday, June 13, 7:00 p.m. – 9: 00 p.m.
